Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What are the basic eligibility requirements?
    Age 60 or older
US citizen and resident of Illinois
Non-exempt assets of $10,000 or less
(non-exempt assets do not include home, car or personal furnishings)
Assessed physical need (29 or more points on the Determination of Need form)
    Completion of Medicaid application

  • How do I arrange for an assessment of need?
Call Illinois' Senior Help Line at 800-252-8966.

  • Is income a criterion for eligibility?
No, but income is reviewed for each client to determine the client's ability to contribute to the cost of care or co-pay.

  • What quality assurances do I have regarding services?
By program rule all homecare assistants must have pre-service and in-service training and pass a criminal background clearance. In-home workers are monitored and evaluations at least annually. In-home visits and client satisfaction are also conducted annually. Association members also endorse IACCPHP's Agency Standards as a guide for assuring quality service delivery
